ISLE OF WIGHT COAST PATH SANDOWN TO CHALE 12 miles |
OK I had a problem with this bit of the walk.
Firstly it was a little place called the Spyglass Inn at Ventnor and the second was I took
a detour along the coast which resulted in a bit of a scramble over boulders etc. It did
include a welcome dip in the sea on the privacy of my own beach - not surprising really as
the whole spot was so difficult to reach. Cynics would say the two problems were not
unconnected. Im staying stum on this one - a bit of off piste walking adds variety and oh by the way thats me enjoying the sunshine,
and a few beers, at the Spyglass Inn. See the problem ? If you avoid the pleasures of
Ventnor, which is tough as its also got some pretty good second hand bookshops, try
the botanical gardens on the way out - an altogether more sedate way of doing things. I
really love this bit of the walk. If you take the high level, the correct route, the views
are stunning to St. Catherines lighthouse. As you come down the cliffs the view
reveals the whole length of the Isle of Wight to Tennyson Down. Wow ! Take a deep breath
your going to walk that lot tomorrow plus some!
