TOTLAND TO COWES 20 miles |
Yes I know. Why am I doing another long day
well I had
an easy start so have to make up the lost ground now. Besides Im getting use to this
walking business now
.no sweat
well a lot, lot more actually. A nice little
section goes through the woods, with views still across the Solent and gently leads down
towards Yarmouth. For some reason I like this bit of the walk best. It was quiet, in the
shade after the hot sun and the arrival into Yarmouth was sudden and exciting. I spent
time at the Castle looking at the old photos of a bygone time. Then outside I watched the
WightLink ferries plough their way through a minefield of yachts. How nice Yarmouth was,
and how like old England with its seafaring past and history flowing from each merry
house. Then just as quickly I leave Yarmouth behind and walk through Boulder Copse. Yet
again flanking the Solent. Yes I love this slice of water. Its busy goings on,
colourful sails, and grinning tides. That feeling that the mainland is oh so very close.
Yes I can see it so clearly now. Yet here I am protected on this island fortress. The
melancholy me takes over and revels in something that cannot last. A long walk around a
refreshing estuary leads to Shalfeet and a welcome halt in the local pub. Then the walk
went sadly pear shaped for me. An unpleasant trudge along roads, a ridiculous detour and
then finally Cowes. A very welcome Cowes.
